Our 25th Anniversary is Coming Up!
This year marks our 25th year working to expand consumer protection and economic justice in Maryland. Join us to celebrate this milestone at our anniversary gala on October 15, 2026 at the Baltimore Museum of Industry. RSVP or sponsor today!
Formerly the Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition, we officially became a nonprofit in 2001, during the dot-com bust and a recession that ended a decade-long economic expansion. In 2009, it was during the Great Recession when tens of thousands of Maryland families, particularly in Black and Brown communities, lost their homes to foreclosure due to reckless Wall Street decisions and predatory lending.
Over the past quarter century, we’ve celebrated many accomplishments. At the policy level, we’ve ended modern-day debtors’ prisons, increased the amount of money people can protect from debt collectors, and passed some of the strongest protections for families with hospital medical debt in the country. Since 2019, our SOAR and Housing Services programs have returned $6,700,000 to low-income older adults and assisted nearly 12,000 tenants — many of whom were living in unsafe housing.
There is much more to do, but first, let’s come together as a community and celebrate! Join us as we come together to build a Maryland that centers low-income and working families, prioritizes equity and reparative justice, and fights for policies that improve the lives of everyday Marylanders, rather than enriches corporate shareholders.
Powerful interest groups spend thousands to influence policy. Your support helps us to balance the scales and ensure that the needs of working people are heard in the halls of the State House, while expanding our direct service work to meet urgent needs.
