Removing the Widow’s Penalty 2017
HB916, sponsored by Del. Charles Sydnor, removes a widow’s penalty from auto insurance ratings. Auto insurers are now prohibited from increasing the premium of a policyholder who becomes a surviving spouse based solely on the insured’s change in marital status. This legislation will save widowed Marylanders $435 a year on their auto insurance.
No Pip Policy Option 2016
SB784/HB900, sponsored by Del. Bill Frick and Sen. Mac Middleton, establishes a new policy option for customers who have not been insured by Maryland Auto for twelve consecutive months, and allows them to purchase a policy with no Personal Injury Protection at a reduced annual premium. This policy option is designed to help uninsured Maryland residents get insured for less.
Insurance Debt Reduction Program 2016
SB888/HB912, sponsored by Del. Bill Frick and Sen. Mac Middleton, creates the first amnesty program for uninsured drivers which reduces the penalties for driving without insurance by 80% as long as the driver uses those funds to purchase insurance.
