Sick of BGE Rate Hikes? Learn How to Fight Back!

If you are upset about the current cost of utilities, you’re not alone. In 2025, the average yearly BGE bill for a home with a gas furnace is estimated to be $3,750, about a 50% increase from 2021. Make no mistake, this is not simply an issue of supply and demand, these costs are being driven up by corporate greed. It is unacceptable.

The past few months, Economic Action Maryland Fund and our partners fought for legislation to reduce the cost of utilities while the gas and utilities spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on lobbyists to defeat these bills.

Lawmakers and the Public Service Commission need to hear from people like you and they need to feel the pressure of a motivated grassroots base in order to do the right thing and hold utility providers accountable. Unfortunately, it can be really difficult to even know where to start when it comes to fighting for utility regulation.

That’s why Economic Action is teaming up with Upgrade Maryland and other state partners to conduct an advocacy training bootcamp for community leaders and advocates to learn more about how to engage with this issue.

With relentlessly escalating BGE rates, we need community leaders to understand the reasons for the rate increases and what we can do about it.

The event is focused on stopping wasteful utility spending that is driving up energy bills in Baltimore and across the state and will feature state experts, lunch and networking, and an interactive workshop with Step Up Maryland. If you are interested in becoming more engaged on this issue, sign up today! Spots are limited so make sure to secure yours now.
