Maryland Homeowners – Critical Home Repairs Grant
From the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development:
The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) WholeHome Grant created under section 3206 of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, helps Maryland homeowners facing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It supports critical repairs in primary residences that could lead to displacement if not addressed. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Grant Amount
- Standard Grant: Up to $10,000
- Exceptions: Up to $15,000 may be made for extenuating circumstances on a case by case basis with documentation of need.
Examples of Eligible Repairs
- Non-functioning heating/cooling systems
- Water heaters
- Electrical and plumbing/septic repairs
- Roof repair/replacement
- Mold/mildew remediation
- Lead paint/Asbestos removal
- Structural and maintenance issues
Applicant Eligibility
- Experienced financial hardship after January 21, 2020
- Income at or below 150% of County AMI (see the Income Limit Chart in the program’s Frequently Asked Questions)
- Must be a Maryland homeowner
- Must reside in the primary residence
- Must be named on the deed of trust
- Provide a work proposal for the critical repair from a licensed and insured Maryland Home Improvement Contractor, with photos or drawings.
